Independent Component 1

( Just some of the work I did for my 30 hours work which included, sorting beanie babies which were donated to house of Ruth, and these past couple of months my mentor was busy therefore she usually leaves work for me to do.). The work she leaves me to do is usually makes a lot of copies and manuals for new volunteers. It helps me understand my topic even more because a lot of the things she makes me do is about DV and I would always read new things that i didn't know before or I could have more ideas of what i could do for my future presentations. I would also talk to Marina about my ideas so I would know if i am in the right direction so i don't have any inaccurate data/info.
  • LITERAL

  • (d) Explanation of what you completed.
  • INTERPRETIVE
Defend your work and explain how the significant parts of your component and how it demonstrates 30 hours of work.   Provide evidence (photos, transcript, art work, videos, etc) of the 30 hours of work.
  • Mostly for my mentor ship for my 30 hours of work I did basic office work such as copy alot of packets, stick paper to candy, help her with manuals, and etc. Also Other than that I help her get prepared for her events such as helping her fill her bags with things she needs in order to go to the events

  • APPLIED
How did the component help you understand the foundation of your topic better?  Please include specific examples to illustrate how it helped.
  • Without component 1, I would not have a deeper understanding of my topic and my foundation. I went into my topic with knowing only the bare basic of domestic violence. When starting off with independent component 1 my mentor started to give me books and videos to watch then after i was done she would make my write a report or we will talk about what happened and how it all ties into domestic violence. this helped me understand ,my topic better because not only did i want to learn more but it taught me a lot of data and statistics that i haven't known before. Also Marina was very helpful because she answered any questions I had and helped me with any concern or questions i had to the best of her abilities. The events that i attended also helped ,me understand my foundation even better all of the events had information and victims stories was inspirational and informative. Lastly all the office work and little things that I did at house of Ruth was very informative and in the end helped me understand my foundation. For example, Marina is always telling me to print out packets for her, and i would sit in the copy room and take read the packets some of the packets were about teen dating violence, domestic violence 101 and etc.... In the end i would tell Marina if i could keep them to help me with my foundation.
