Blog 21, Mentorship

Literal
Marina Wood ( Event Coordinator), House of Ruth

Interpretive
The most important thing that I gained from my experience volunteering at House of Ruth with Marina Wood was becoming more involved with my community. I did some public speaking at community events including my presentation to the freshman about domestic violence. Also mentoring with House of Ruth made me realize i had a passion for helping others, it gave me a sense of self gratification that i am doing something other then focusing completely on myself. From their i started to become more involved with other non-profit organizations around my community, example Project Sister Family Services.

Applied
Well I worked hand in hand with House of Ruth. For my best answer, working with educators to create a curriculum for 7-12 grade students, I got to present a different events and I-poly and see the students reaction when i told them this information and it made me realize that a lot of students didn't know half the things me and my mentor were talking about or they were curious to know more. Another thing that i have done that my helped me derived my answer to my EQ is seeing what House of Ruth does to help the victims. Since House of Ruth protects the victim identity and profile, my mentor told me what they do to help the victims in general to escape an abusive relationship. such as create a safety plan when during the legal process.
